General questions
01What treatments does El-Embaby Dental Clinic offer?
Complete dental care: IPS e.max veneers and Hollywood smiles, teeth whitening, crowns and fillings, root canal treatment, dental implants, extractions including wisdom teeth, gum treatment, orthodontics with braces or clear aligners, check-ups and cleaning, children’s dentistry and emergency care.
02What is the difference between E-max and composite veneers?
E-max is a glazed lithium disilicate ceramic: strong, translucent like enamel, and resistant to stains. Composite is a resin applied in layers — quicker and cheaper, but it absorbs stains, loses its shine and chips or breaks over time.
03Do veneers damage natural teeth?
Veneers are planned to be conservative. Your digital design guides how much (or how little) preparation is needed, so we preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.
04Is root canal treatment painful?
Modern root canal treatment is carried out under local anaesthesia and most patients feel it is similar to having a filling. It relieves the pain of an infected nerve and allows us to save the natural tooth.
05Do you offer dental implants and orthodontics?
Yes. We replace missing teeth with dental implants and implant-supported crowns, and straighten teeth with metal or ceramic braces or clear aligners. Each plan starts with an examination and digital records.
06Will my new smile look fake or too white?
Not if it is designed well. We choose a shade that suits your skin and eyes and intentionally create subtle differences between teeth, because perfectly identical teeth look artificial.
07Can I see my new smile before treatment?
Yes. With digital smile design you see it on screen, and with a mock-up you can try it in your mouth before anything is permanent.
08I live abroad. Can treatment fit around my trip?
Many patients plan treatment around a visit to Egypt. Send us your dates on WhatsApp and we will advise on planning your case around them.
09Where is the clinic?
El-Embaby Dental Clinic is in 3Sixty Mall, Golden Square, Fifth Settlement, New Cairo — minutes from the Ring Road. Message us on WhatsApp to book.
Cosmetic dentistry
E-max Veneers →
10Are E-max veneers better than composite?
For most cosmetic cases, yes. IPS e.max is a glazed ceramic that keeps its colour and shine and resists chipping, while composite is a resin that tends to absorb stains and wear or chip over time. Composite can still be a sensible, quicker option for small repairs, and we will tell you when it is.
11Will my teeth be shaved down?
Preparation is planned digitally and kept as conservative as your case allows. Sometimes very little is needed; sometimes more reshaping is required to correct position or colour. Because any preparation is permanent, we explain exactly what your plan involves, tooth by tooth, before we begin.
12How long do E-max veneers last?
With good care, E-max veneers are designed to last for many years. How long they last depends on your oral hygiene, your bite, habits such as grinding and how regularly you attend check-ups. A night guard, if you need one, and avoiding biting hard objects both help protect them.
13Is the treatment painful?
Most patients find it comfortable. Preparation is done under local anaesthetic, and bonding usually needs little or none. Mild sensitivity to cold or slight gum tenderness for a few days is common and normally settles quickly.
Hollywood Smile →
14Will a Hollywood smile look fake?
Not when it is designed properly. Perfectly identical teeth look artificial, so we intentionally build in subtle differences between teeth and choose a shade that suits your face, skin and eyes rather than the brightest white available.
15How many veneers do I need?
It depends on how wide your smile is and which teeth show when you laugh. Many smiles involve the upper front eight to ten teeth, and some include the lower teeth too. Your digital design shows exactly which teeth are included before you decide.
16Can a Hollywood smile be done without veneers?
Sometimes a similar improvement can be achieved more conservatively, with whitening, tooth-coloured bonding, orthodontics or a combination. A full Hollywood smile usually means veneers or crowns, but we always discuss the gentler alternatives that suit your teeth before recommending porcelain.
17How long does it take?
For many patients it takes a few visits over several weeks, from design and mock-up to final bonding. If gum treatment, fillings or orthodontics are needed first, the timeline is longer. We give you a clear schedule at your consultation, and can plan around a visit to Egypt if you live abroad.
Digital Smile Design →
18Can I change the design?
Yes. The mock-up exists so you can live with the design, give feedback and refine length, shape or shade before anything is final. Changes are much simpler at this stage than after treatment, so we encourage you to be honest about anything you would like different.
19Does the mock-up hurt or damage my teeth?
No. The mock-up is made from a temporary material placed over your existing teeth without drilling or preparation, and it is removed easily afterwards. It may feel slightly bulky because it sits on top of your teeth, but it gives a realistic preview of shape and length.
20Will the final result match the design?
The approved design guides both preparation and the lab, so the final restorations follow it closely. Porcelain is also more lifelike than mock-up material, with real translucency and depth, so most patients find the finished smile looks even more natural than the preview.
Teeth Whitening →
21Does whitening damage enamel?
When it is done professionally, with the right concentration and timing, whitening is considered safe for enamel. The main side effect is temporary sensitivity. Problems are more likely with unsupervised overuse of strong products, which is why we tailor the gel, time and number of sessions to your teeth.
22How white will my teeth get?
It depends on your natural shade and the type of staining. Most people see a clear improvement, but every tooth responds differently. We record your starting shade and aim for a bright result that suits your face, rather than an unnaturally flat white.
23Is laser whitening better?
A light is sometimes used alongside in-clinic whitening, but the whitening itself comes mainly from the gel. What matters most is a professional-grade gel, proper gum protection and careful supervision. We will recommend the approach that suits your teeth and your sensitivity.
24Can I whiten veneers or crowns?
No. Whitening gels only lighten natural tooth structure, not porcelain or composite. If you plan to have new restorations on visible teeth, it is usually best to whiten first, then match the new restorations to your brighter shade.
Restorative & endodontics
Zirconia Crowns →
25Zirconia or E-max for a crown?
Both are excellent. Zirconia is chosen where strength matters most; E-max where maximum translucency matters most. Often a smile uses both, matched to each other. We recommend the material for each tooth based on its position, your bite and the look you want.
26How long does a zirconia crown last?
With good care, zirconia crowns are designed to last for many years. Their lifespan depends on the health of the tooth underneath, your gums, your bite and habits such as grinding. Regular check-ups let us spot any problems at the margins early, while they are still simple to manage.
27Does a root-treated tooth always need a crown?
Not always, but often. Back teeth that have had root canal treatment usually benefit from a crown, because they carry heavy chewing forces and can become more brittle. Front teeth with little damage may only need a filling. We decide based on how much healthy tooth remains.
Tooth-Coloured Fillings →
28Should I replace my old silver fillings?
Not necessarily. If an amalgam filling is intact and the tooth is healthy, it can often be left alone. We usually recommend replacing it when it is cracked, leaking or has decay around it, or when you want to improve the look of a visible tooth. We assess each filling individually.
29How long do white fillings last?
Composite fillings usually last for many years, depending on their size and position, your bite and your oral hygiene. Large fillings on back teeth face more force and may eventually need replacing, or upgrading to an onlay or crown for extra protection.
30Does getting a filling hurt?
With local anaesthetic, most patients feel pressure and vibration but not pain. Very small, shallow fillings sometimes need no anaesthetic at all. Some sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal and usually fades on its own.
Root Canal Treatment →
31Is a root canal painful?
Modern root canal treatment is usually no more uncomfortable than a filling, because the tooth is fully numbed. In fact, it is done to relieve pain. Some tenderness for a few days afterwards is common and normally eases with simple pain relief.
32Why not just extract the tooth?
Keeping your natural tooth is usually the best option for chewing, appearance and the health of the neighbouring teeth. An extracted tooth generally needs replacing with an implant or bridge to stop the remaining teeth from shifting. We consider extraction only when a tooth cannot be saved predictably.
33How many visits will I need?
Many root canals are completed in one visit, while teeth with several canals, severe infection or previous treatment may need two or more. We explain the plan for your tooth after examining it and reviewing the X-ray.
34Do I need a crown afterwards?
Back teeth usually do, because they carry heavy chewing forces and can become brittle after treatment. Front teeth with little damage may only need a filling. We recommend the restoration that best protects your tooth for the long term.
Full Mouth Rehabilitation →
35How long does full mouth rehabilitation take?
It depends entirely on what is needed. Some plans are completed in a few months; those involving implants or orthodontics take longer because of healing and tooth movement. We give you a phased timeline at the planning stage, so you know what to expect at every step.
36Can it all be done at once?
Some stages can be grouped into longer appointments, but healing and bite testing mean most full-mouth plans are spread over several visits. Rushing can compromise comfort and longevity, so we balance speed with predictability and agree the pace with you.
37What if I have many missing teeth?
Missing teeth can be replaced with implants, bridges, removable dentures or dentures held securely by implants. The best choice depends on your bone, gums, general health and preferences. We explain the advantages and limitations of each option for your case before you decide.
Implants & oral surgery
Dental Implants →
38Is implant surgery painful?
Placement is done under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure rather than pain during the procedure. Afterwards, most patients have mild to moderate discomfort for a few days, usually controlled with standard pain relief. Many are surprised by how manageable it is.
39Am I suitable for implants?
Most healthy adults with a missing tooth can be considered. Bone volume, gum health, smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and some medications can affect suitability or healing. We assess these carefully, and in many cases bone grafting or other preparation makes implants possible.
40How long does the whole process take?
From placement to final crown, treatment typically takes a few months to allow the implant to bond with the bone. If an extraction or bone graft is needed first, it takes longer. In selected cases, a temporary tooth can be attached sooner.
41Implant or bridge?
Both replace a missing tooth. A bridge relies on crowning the neighbouring teeth, while an implant stands on its own and leaves them untouched. Implants are often preferred when neighbouring teeth are healthy and bone is adequate, but a bridge remains a good option in some cases.
Tooth Extraction & Wisdom Teeth →
42Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that have erupted fully, sit in a healthy position and can be cleaned well can often stay. Removal is usually advised when they are impacted, keep causing infection or pain, damage the neighbouring tooth or cannot be kept clean.
43How long does recovery take?
After a simple extraction, most people feel back to normal within a few days. After surgical wisdom tooth removal, swelling and stiffness usually settle within about a week. Complete healing of the bone takes longer, but this happens quietly in the background without discomfort.
44What is a dry socket?
A dry socket happens when the blood clot in the socket is lost too early, exposing the bone and causing increasing pain a few days after extraction. Following aftercare advice, especially not smoking or using straws, lowers the risk. If it happens, we can treat it and relieve the pain.
45Should I replace an extracted tooth?
For back teeth and visible teeth, usually yes. A gap can let neighbouring teeth drift and affect your bite over time. Options include an implant, a bridge or a denture. Wisdom teeth are the exception and do not need replacing.
Gum Treatment →
46Why do my gums bleed when I brush?
Bleeding gums are most often a sign of gingivitis, caused by plaque along the gum line. Many people stop brushing that area, but gentle, thorough cleaning is exactly what helps. If the bleeding continues after a professional clean and improved home care, we look for deeper causes.
47Is deep cleaning painful?
We use local anaesthetic, so the procedure itself is usually comfortable. Afterwards, gums may feel sore and teeth sensitive for a few days. Warm salt-water rinses and simple pain relief help, and the discomfort normally fades as the gums heal.
48Can receding gums grow back?
Gum tissue that has receded does not usually grow back on its own. Treating the cause, such as gum disease or very hard brushing, helps prevent further recession. In some cases, a gum graft can cover exposed roots, and we can advise whether that is suitable for you.
Orthodontics
Orthodontics →
49Am I too old for braces?
No. Teeth can be moved at any age as long as the gums and bone are healthy. Many orthodontic patients are adults, and discreet options such as ceramic braces or clear aligners make treatment easier to fit into working and social life.
50Do braces hurt?
Braces and aligners do not usually cause sharp pain, but teeth often feel sore and under pressure for a few days after fitting or an adjustment. Soft food and simple pain relief help. Brackets can rub the cheeks at first; orthodontic wax eases this while your mouth adapts.
51How long does treatment take?
It depends on the complexity of your case. Minor alignment may take several months, while more complex bite corrections can take two years or more. We give you an estimated timeline once your records are taken, and following instructions on elastics or aligner wear keeps treatment on track.
52Why do I need a retainer?
Teeth naturally tend to move back towards their old positions, especially in the first months after treatment. A retainer, either fixed behind the teeth or removable, holds the result. Most people are advised to wear retainers long term, usually at night, to keep their teeth straight.
Preventive & family care
Dental Check-up & Cleaning →
53Does scaling damage enamel?
No. When done correctly, professional scaling removes tartar, not enamel. Teeth may feel different afterwards because the tartar that covered them has gone, and small gaps that were filled with tartar may become noticeable. This is a sign of cleaner, healthier gums.
54How often should I have my teeth cleaned?
For most people, every six months is a good routine. If you have gum disease, build up tartar quickly, smoke, wear braces or have implants, we may recommend cleaning every three to four months. We tailor the interval to your mouth.
55Will cleaning make my teeth whiter?
Polishing removes surface stains, so teeth often look brighter after a cleaning. It does not change the natural colour of the tooth itself; for that, professional whitening is the option. Many patients have a cleaning first, then whitening, for the best result.
Children’s Dentistry →
56Do baby teeth really need fillings?
Often, yes. Baby back teeth usually stay until around the age of 10 to 12. Untreated decay can cause pain, infection and early loss, which may affect how adult teeth come through. Small cavities are best treated early, and very early lesions may be managed with fluoride and monitoring.
57When should my child start using fluoride toothpaste?
From the first tooth. For children under three, use a smear of fluoride toothpaste the size of a grain of rice; from three to six, a pea-sized amount. Supervise brushing twice a day and encourage spitting out rather than rinsing. We can advise on the right toothpaste for your child.
58What if my child is scared?
This is very common. We take things slowly, explain in child-friendly language and never rush. Short, positive visits build confidence over time. Telling your child that the dentist will “count and clean their teeth”, rather than sharing your own worries, also helps.
Emergency Dentistry →
59My tooth hurts at night. Is that an emergency?
Toothache that wakes you, throbs or lingers after hot or cold often means the nerve is inflamed or infected. It is worth being seen soon, even if the pain comes and goes, because the problem usually gets worse without treatment. Simple pain relief can help in the meantime.
60Will antibiotics fix my toothache?
Usually not on their own. Antibiotics can help when an infection is spreading or causing swelling and fever, but they do not remove the cause inside the tooth. Toothache from an inflamed nerve needs dental treatment, such as a root canal or, in some cases, extraction.
61What should I do if a crown or veneer comes off?
Keep the restoration safe in a small container and avoid chewing on that side. Do not glue it back with household adhesive. Contact us so we can check the tooth underneath and, in many cases, re-cement the original crown or veneer.
Results vary from person to person. Every treatment plan is decided after an in-person clinical examination.
