Children’s Dentistry

Paediatric dentistry · New Cairo

Gentle, patient care that keeps children’s teeth healthy and helps them feel at ease at the dentist.

Healthy habits and positive experiences in childhood shape how people feel about the dentist for life. Our team takes time to explain, reassure and go at your child’s pace, while treating and protecting baby and adult teeth with care.

When to start

We recommend a first dental visit around the time the first tooth appears, or by your child’s first birthday. Early visits are short and relaxed: a look at the teeth, advice for parents on brushing, diet, bottles and dummies, and a chance for your child to get used to the chair. Baby teeth matter. They help children eat, speak and smile, and hold space for the adult teeth beneath. Decay in baby teeth can cause pain and infection, so it is worth treating rather than waiting for them to fall out.

Prevention and treatment

Regular check-ups let us monitor how teeth and jaws are developing and spot decay early. Preventive care can include professional cleaning, fluoride varnish to strengthen enamel, and fissure sealants: a thin protective coating on the grooves of back teeth, where cavities often start. When treatment is needed, we use tooth-coloured fillings and, for baby teeth with deep decay, nerve treatment or small protective crowns where appropriate. We also keep an eye on the bite and alignment, and suggest an orthodontic assessment early when it would help.

Helping children feel at ease

We explain each step in simple words, show children the instruments before we use them and let them signal if they need a pause. Praise and patience go a long way. Parents can usually stay in the room, and we ask you to talk about the visit positively at home, avoiding words like “hurt” or “needle”. If a child is very anxious or needs extensive treatment, we plan short visits, starting with the easiest steps, to build trust gradually. A good experience now makes every future visit easier.

§Questions, answered

Children’s Dentistry

Do baby teeth really need fillings?

Often, yes. Baby back teeth usually stay until around the age of 10 to 12. Untreated decay can cause pain, infection and early loss, which may affect how adult teeth come through. Small cavities are best treated early, and very early lesions may be managed with fluoride and monitoring.

When should my child start using fluoride toothpaste?

From the first tooth. For children under three, use a smear of fluoride toothpaste the size of a grain of rice; from three to six, a pea-sized amount. Supervise brushing twice a day and encourage spitting out rather than rinsing. We can advise on the right toothpaste for your child.

What if my child is scared?

This is very common. We take things slowly, explain in child-friendly language and never rush. Short, positive visits build confidence over time. Telling your child that the dentist will “count and clean their teeth”, rather than sharing your own worries, also helps.

Results vary from person to person. Every treatment plan is decided after an in-person clinical examination.
