Tooth-Coloured Fillings

White composite fillings · New Cairo

Natural-looking composite fillings that repair decay and small chips while preserving healthy tooth.

Tooth-coloured fillings are made from composite resin, shaded to blend with your natural teeth. We use them to repair cavities, replace old or broken fillings and rebuild small chips, bonding directly to the tooth so that as much healthy structure as possible is preserved.

When do you need a filling?

Decay often starts without pain, which is why many cavities are found at routine check-ups or on X-rays before you notice anything. Signs that a filling may be needed include sensitivity to sweet or cold, a rough edge your tongue keeps finding, food catching between teeth, or a visible dark spot. Old fillings may also crack, leak or develop decay underneath. Treating a cavity early usually means a smaller, simpler filling; left untreated, decay can reach the nerve and lead to root canal treatment or even loss of the tooth.

What happens during treatment

Most fillings are completed in a single visit. We numb the area with local anaesthetic so that you feel little more than pressure, then gently remove the decay. The tooth is cleaned and prepared, and composite is applied in thin layers, each hardened with a curing light. Finally, we shape and polish the filling to follow the natural anatomy of the tooth and check your bite, so it feels smooth and comfortable. Working with magnification, we aim to remove only damaged tooth and keep healthy enamel.

After your filling

Composite is fully hardened before you leave, so you can eat once the numbness wears off; waiting avoids biting your cheek or tongue. Mild sensitivity to cold or pressure for a few days is common, especially after a deeper filling, and usually settles. If your bite feels high or the sensitivity persists, let us know so we can adjust it. Composite can stain slightly over time, like natural teeth, so brushing, flossing, regular cleaning and less sugar between meals help your fillings — and your teeth — last longer.

How it works

  1. 01

    Diagnosis

An examination and, when needed, a digital X-ray show the size and depth of the decay.

  2. 02

    Comfortable numbing

Local anaesthetic keeps you comfortable; very small fillings sometimes need none.

  3. 03

    Gentle decay removal

We remove only the damaged tooth and prepare the surface for bonding.

  4. 04

    Layering & shaping

Composite is built up in thin, shade-matched layers and hardened with a curing light.

  5. 05

    Polish & bite check

The filling is polished smooth and your bite is adjusted so it feels natural.

§Questions, answered

Tooth-Coloured Fillings

Should I replace my old silver fillings?

Not necessarily. If an amalgam filling is intact and the tooth is healthy, it can often be left alone. We usually recommend replacing it when it is cracked, leaking or has decay around it, or when you want to improve the look of a visible tooth. We assess each filling individually.

How long do white fillings last?

Composite fillings usually last for many years, depending on their size and position, your bite and your oral hygiene. Large fillings on back teeth face more force and may eventually need replacing, or upgrading to an onlay or crown for extra protection.

Does getting a filling hurt?

With local anaesthetic, most patients feel pressure and vibration but not pain. Very small, shallow fillings sometimes need no anaesthetic at all. Some sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal and usually fades on its own.

Results vary from person to person. Every treatment plan is decided after an in-person clinical examination.
