Gum Treatment

Periodontics & deep cleaning · New Cairo

Care for bleeding gums and gum disease, from deep cleaning to long-term periodontal maintenance.

Healthy gums are the foundation of every smile, natural or restored. Gum treatment controls the bacteria and hardened tartar that cause inflammation, stops bleeding and helps protect the bone that holds your teeth in place.

Signs of gum disease

Gum disease usually begins as gingivitis: red, swollen gums that bleed when you brush or floss. At this stage it is reversible with professional cleaning and better home care. If it is left, inflammation can spread below the gum line and damage the supporting bone, a condition called periodontitis. Warning signs include persistent bad breath, gums that recede or pull away from the teeth, sensitivity, spaces opening between teeth and teeth that feel loose. Smoking, diabetes, stress and genetics can all increase the risk, and early stages are often painless.

Deep cleaning and treatment

We start by measuring the depth of the spaces between your gums and teeth, known as pockets, and reviewing X-rays to assess the bone. For established gum disease, the main treatment is deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing. Under local anaesthetic, we remove tartar and bacteria from below the gum line and smooth the root surfaces so the gums can heal and tighten. This is usually done over one or more visits, area by area. More advanced cases may need further treatment, which we discuss with you openly.

Healing and maintenance

After deep cleaning, the gums may feel tender and teeth slightly sensitive for a few days. As inflammation settles, bleeding reduces and the gums often shrink a little as they tighten, which can make teeth look slightly longer. We re-measure your gums after a few weeks to check the response. Gum disease can be controlled but needs ongoing care, so we usually recommend more frequent professional cleanings, often every three to four months at first, alongside careful brushing and cleaning between teeth with floss or interdental brushes.

§Questions, answered

Gum Treatment

Why do my gums bleed when I brush?

Bleeding gums are most often a sign of gingivitis, caused by plaque along the gum line. Many people stop brushing that area, but gentle, thorough cleaning is exactly what helps. If the bleeding continues after a professional clean and improved home care, we look for deeper causes.

Is deep cleaning painful?

We use local anaesthetic, so the procedure itself is usually comfortable. Afterwards, gums may feel sore and teeth sensitive for a few days. Warm salt-water rinses and simple pain relief help, and the discomfort normally fades as the gums heal.

Can receding gums grow back?

Gum tissue that has receded does not usually grow back on its own. Treating the cause, such as gum disease or very hard brushing, helps prevent further recession. In some cases, a gum graft can cover exposed roots, and we can advise whether that is suitable for you.

Results vary from person to person. Every treatment plan is decided after an in-person clinical examination.
